Job Overview:
The Nuclear Safeguards Inspector (P4) plays a crucial role in the IAEA's mission to ensure that nuclear materials are not diverted from peaceful uses. This position involves working under the supervision of a Section Head and a Senior Inspector, participating in the implementation of safeguards activities, and potentially functioning as a safeguards inspector with the approval of the Board of Governors. The inspector will be responsible for leading verification and analytical work at nuclear facilities, evaluating compliance with nuclear safeguards commitments, and mentoring less experienced inspectors. The role requires a deep understanding of nuclear technology and the nuclear fuel cycle, as well as the ability to coordinate complex verification activities across various countries and facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nuclear Safeguards Inspector (P4) will lead verification and analytical work at nuclear facilities and locations involved in nuclear-related research and development. Key responsibilities include verifying nuclear material accountancy, examining records and reports, performing complementary access activities, servicing containment and surveillance equipment, and negotiating with state or facility representatives. The inspector will also conduct in-depth evaluations of safeguards-relevant information, compile reports, and recommend safeguards procedures. Additionally, the inspector will mentor new inspectors, provide technical and administrative coordination of safeguards activities, and represent the Senior Inspector at departmental meetings when required. The position may involve exposure to radioactive materials, necessitating medical clearance and adherence to radiation safety regulations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Information Analysis, or International Relations with a specialization relevant to nuclear science or technology. A Bachelor's degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Applicants should have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in the nuclear field, with at least three years in nuclear safeguards at a state or international level. Proven leadership skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in a relevant field such as Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Information Analysis, or International Relations, with a focus on nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or nuclear non-proliferation. A Bachelor's degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional relevant experience. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of nuclear safeguards and the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in the nuclear field or related verification work. At least three of those years must be specifically in the area of nuclear safeguards at either a state or international level. Candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to lead collaborative teams and work proactively in diverse environments, showcasing their expertise in nuclear technology and safeguards.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84,672, along with a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, and relocation expenses.
