Job Overview: This internship focuses on the sustainable development of rural areas, which is crucial for addressing global crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, hunger, and social inequalities. The sector project 'Resilient Rural Areas' advises the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on policy and strategy development and collaborates with national and international partners. Agrarökologie (agroecology) is a central approach for transforming agricultural and food systems, essential for the preservation and sustainable use of land ecosystems (soil, water, biodiversity) and the protection of related livelihoods. Interns will gain insight into the work of a recognized development cooperation institution and will assist in processes focusing on agroecology and climate, under the guidance of a mentor, while also handling their own tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for conducting internet research on current issues related to the transformation of food systems, particularly in agroecology. They will support the preparation of technical statements, documents, PowerPoint presentations, and publications. The intern will independently write texts for communication products and social media, and will help organize logistics and content for events such as workshops, webinars, and discussions. They will also provide organizational and content support in daily operations, participate in team meetings, and document various technical events organized by the company and external partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be enrolled in their studies from the 3rd semester in agricultural or environmental sciences (preferably with a focus on sustainable resource use and agroecology) or related fields. Basic knowledge of the current discussions surrounding rural development is required. Familiarity with approaches to sustainable transformation of agricultural and food systems, particularly agroecology, is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities. They should be team-oriented yet capable of working independently and structured. A quick understanding and the ability to present complex issues in easily understandable texts are essential. Previous experience or knowledge of the political and social conditions in developing and transition countries is beneficial. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency in at least one additional relevant foreign language (e.g., French, Spanish). Proficiency in various Office applications (especially Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a university program, specifically in the fields of agricultural or environmental sciences, or related disciplines. The internship is only possible if the candidate is currently registered, is in a training program that includes an internship as an integral part, or if their degree was completed no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: Candidates should have some prior experience or knowledge of the political and social conditions in developing and transition countries. This could include internships, volunteer work, or relevant coursework that provides insight into these areas.
Languages: Proficiency in German is mandatory, and candidates should also have good knowledge of at least one additional relevant foreign language, such as French or Spanish, which would be considered advantageous.
