Job Overview:
The Site Maintenance Technician position is crucial for ensuring a safe, pleasant, and reliable working environment within the WFP office in N'Djamena. The role involves performing various maintenance tasks that require a range of skills and physical fitness to handle heavy loads and work in all weather conditions while adhering to safety protocols. The technician will report to the administration officer or their deputy and will be responsible for the upkeep of the facilities, ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly and safely. This position is essential for maintaining the operational efficiency of WFP's activities in the region, contributing to the overall mission of providing humanitarian assistance to those in need. The technician will also play a role in supporting the planning and execution of maintenance schedules, ensuring that all preventive maintenance is conducted regularly to avoid disruptions in service.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute various maintenance and installation tasks to ensure that preventive maintenance (generators, water heaters, water pumps, electrical networks, furniture, etc.) is performed regularly, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment.
  • Assist in implementing the periodic maintenance schedule for WFP equipment and monitor the work with the maintenance contract team.
  • Perform installations, repairs, and regular and ad-hoc maintenance of electrical networks and plumbing components to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of electrical and plumbing supplies through physical checks and database management, organizing the disposal of equipment and materials in strict adherence to WFP asset management guidelines.
  • Prepare and communicate accurate reports on work undertaken, services provided, and materials purchased and used for installations and repairs, including fuel consumption logs for generators, to contribute to accurate accounting and efficient planning of future work and services.
  • Provide technical guidance to external contractors during maintenance programs to achieve efficient and cost-effective services.
  • Assist the supervisor in evaluating installation/repair work, comparing material prices, and contributing to future preventive maintenance planning to support the provision of efficient and cost-effective site maintenance services.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of a technical high school diploma in fields such as electricity, construction, electronics, or mechanics. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience in site maintenance procedures and record-keeping, with at least one year of experience at the G-2 level or equivalent. Knowledge of machine operation and the use of cleaning materials and products is essential, along with the ability to operate and maintain equipment in good working condition. Candidates should also be familiar with safety precautions and possess the ability to multitask and respond promptly to job requirements. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high sense of responsibility and punctuality are crucial. Integrity and honesty are paramount, as well as the ability to write correspondence with proper syntax and spelling. The candidate should be able to work in a multicultural environment and as part of a team, and be physically capable of working in all weather conditions.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have at least a high school diploma in a technical field related to the position, such as electricity, construction, electronics, or mechanics. This educational background is essential to ensure that the technician has the foundational knowledge required to perform maintenance tasks effectively and safely.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of relevant experience in site maintenance procedures and record-keeping is required. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of experience at the G-2 level or an equivalent position, demonstrating their capability to handle the responsibilities associated with this role effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and the region. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse work environment.
