Interns will be supervised by the Head of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and will be expected to contribute to various functions of the office, including administrative support, coordination with UN agencies and external partners, research and analysis, event management, documentation, speech preparation, and project management. Duties and Responsibilities: Interns at the UN RCO will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the office's operations. Key duties include:
Administrative Support: Managing the Head's calendar, scheduling meetings, and handling correspondence to ensure smooth operations within the office.
Coordination: Facilitating communication between the Resident Coordinator's Office and other departments, UN agencies, and external partners to promote collaboration and information sharing.
Research and Analysis: Conducting research on key issues and initiatives, preparing reports, and providing insights that inform decision-making processes.
Event Management: Organizing and coordinating events, meetings, and conferences to support the UN's outreach and engagement efforts.
Documentation: Preparing and reviewing documents, presentations, briefing materials, and meeting minutes to ensure accurate and effective communication.
Speech and Talking Points Preparation: Drafting speeches, talking points, and other communication materials for the Head to enhance public engagement.
Project Management: Assisting in the planning and execution of special projects and initiatives that align with the UN's strategic objectives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements to be eligible for the internship: a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should possess strong organizational and multitasking skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes either enrollment in or completion of a graduate school programme or the final academic year of a first university degree programme. This means that candidates should have a solid foundation in their field of study, which could range from international relations, development studies, public administration, or other relevant disciplines that align with the UN's mission and objectives.
Experience: No prior work experience is required to apply for the United NationsInternship Programme. However, candidates are encouraged to leverage their training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
