Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the sector project 'Resilient Rural Areas,' which advises the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on policy and strategy development. The focus is on agrarökologie (agroecology) as a central approach to transforming agricultural and food systems, essential for the sustainable use of land ecosystems and the protection of livelihoods. Interns will gain insights into the work of a recognized institution in development cooperation and will participate in team processes with a focus on agroecology and climate. Under the guidance of a mentor, interns will also handle their own tasks, contributing to the organization's mission of sustainable rural development.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for conducting internet research on current issues related to the transformation of food systems, particularly in agroecology. They will assist in the preparation of technical statements, documents, PowerPoint presentations, and publications. Interns will independently write texts for communication products and social media, and help organize logistics and content for events such as workshops, webinars, and discussions. They will support the internal GIZ team on agroecology by conducting background research on current topics and questions. Additionally, interns will provide organizational and content support in daily operations, participate in team meetings, and document various technical events organized by the company and external partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be enrolled in their studies from the 3rd semester in agricultural or environmental sciences (preferably with a focus on sustainable resource use and agroecology) or related fields. Basic knowledge of the current discussions on rural development is required, and familiarity with approaches to sustainable transformation of agricultural and food systems, particularly agroecology, is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities. They should be team-oriented while also capable of independent and structured work. A quick understanding of complex issues and the ability to present them in easily understandable texts is essential. Candidates should have initial experiences or knowledge of the political and social conditions in developing and transition countries, as well as strong expression skills in both written and spoken forms, with at least good knowledge of another relevant foreign language (e.g., French, Spanish). Proficiency in various Office applications (especially Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is also required.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a degree program, participating in a training program that includes an internship as an integral part, or having graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. This ensures that the internship is relevant to their academic and professional development.
Experience: Candidates should have some prior experience or knowledge related to the political and social conditions in developing and transition countries. This could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that provide insight into these areas.
Languages: Fluency in German is mandatory, and candidates should also have good knowledge of another relevant foreign language, such as French or Spanish, which would be considered an asset for the position.
