Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the BioInnovation Africa (BIA) project, which aims to foster African-European business partnerships centered around biodiversity-based value chains. These partnerships are grounded in high ethical, social, and environmental standards, promoting equitable benefit-sharing and the sustainable utilization of Africa's genetic resources. The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing capacities in partner countries regarding biodiversity valorization, business development, and negotiation skills related to Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS). The intern will also be involved in providing general advice on ABS contracts, supporting the implementation of national guidelines for benefit sharing, and facilitating knowledge exchange and sector dialogues. The overarching goal of the BIA project is to promote social-ecological change and achieve a balance between environmental and socio-economic sustainability in countries such as Cameroon, Namibia, South Africa, and Madagascar.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern for the BioInnovation Africa project, your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks that provide valuable insights into the workings of a globally operating project. Key duties include:
Disseminating a capacity development package, which involves supporting the application of training materials, establishing a network of trainers, and integrating these resources into the digital infrastructure of partner institutions.
Engaging in project communication and public relations by drafting articles to report on project activities and events, maintaining the project website, and managing social media presence.
Contributing to project monitoring, documentation, reporting, and evaluation, which includes coordinating data collection and facilitating project evaluations.
Supporting collaboration with private sector partners by compiling and documenting lessons learned, coordinating annual partnership exchanges, and preparing reports.
Organizing internal meetings, webinars, and events for project partners to enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this internship should be currently enrolled in their fourth semester or higher in fields such as agricultural, biological, geographical, economic, political, or social sciences, or related disciplines. A strong technical affinity is essential, along with proficiency in common MS Office programs, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Typo3 for website content management or Moodle (Learning Management System) is considered an asset. A genuine interest in development policy, particularly in biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to quickly adapt to new tasks and exhibit reliability, motivation, and commitment. Previous experience in an African country or in the field of international cooperation is advantageous.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as agricultural, biological, geographical, economic, political, or social sciences. Enrollment in a university program at the fourth semester level or higher is required, ensuring that candidates possess a foundational understanding of the relevant disciplines that will support their work in the internship.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some prior experience, particularly in an African context or within the realm of international cooperation.
