Job Overview: The Senior Programme Management Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Global Framework for Through-life Conventional Ammunition Management. This position requires a high level of independence and initiative, as the incumbent will manage and assist in all phases of the CAB’s program. The role involves researching, compiling, analyzing, and summarizing data related to the Global Framework, as well as tracking legislative decisions that impact the program. The assistant will also be responsible for budget preparation, monitoring financial transactions, and ensuring compliance with program objectives. The position demands strong organizational skills, the ability to liaise with various organizational units, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively. The incumbent will also provide administrative support to intergovernmental processes and committees, ensuring that all activities align with the established plans and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Programme Management Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: providing comprehensive program management assistance; researching and analyzing data related to the Global Framework; tracking resolutions and legislative decisions; reviewing and appraising program submissions; drafting budgets and forecasts; monitoring budgetary commitments; preparing newsletters and reports; coordinating implementation activities; supervising office support staff; establishing and maintaining databases; and assisting with data analysis and presentations. The role also includes preparing for project closures, providing secretariat services to committees, and undertaking fieldwork as necessary. The assistant will need to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with established guidelines and objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree or higher is preferred, which can reduce the required work experience. The position requires a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in program or project administration, technical cooperation, or a related area. Experience in providing secretariat services to intergovernmental processes and familiarity with UMOJA or similar Enterprise Resource Planning platforms is essential. Additionally, experience with complex, multi-partner projects and data analytics is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. However, candidates with a first-level university degree or higher will have a reduced experience requirement, making them more competitive for the role. The educational background should ideally be in a field related to program management, international relations, or a similar discipline that supports the functions of the United Nations.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in program or project administration, technical cooperation, or a related area. For candidates with a first-level university degree or higher, the required experience is reduced to eight years. Experience in providing secretariat services to intergovernmental processes is mandatory, as is experience with UMOJA or similar Enterprise Resource Planning platforms. Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
