The position of Berater*in Biodiversität, Klimawandel involves providing expert advice to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) on biodiversity and climate change issues. The role focuses on the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Paris Climate Agreement, requiring the candidate to coordinate the development of reports, position papers, and studies related to these themes. The advisor will also facilitate knowledge management by integrating successful implementation experiences from international climate initiatives into global dialogues. The position demands collaboration with various stakeholders, including governmental bodies, international organizations, and private sector partners, to enhance synergies between biodiversity and climate protection efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Berater*in include advising the BMUKN on selected topics with a focus on CBD negotiations, coordinating the preparation of reports and position papers, organizing and moderating expert events, and providing guidance on the IKI interface projects of partner countries. The advisor will manage collaborations with experts from various sectors, support project management in strategic planning and monitoring, and ensure innovative identification and utilization of synergies in biodiversity, climate, and environmental protection. Additionally, the role involves fostering close cooperation with GIZ colleagues in relevant organizational units and contributing to the overall success of the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess in-depth expertise and extensive professional experience in international cooperation, particularly in biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. They should have a strong background in policy advice to German ministries and partner countries, with established networks in international organizations and civil society. The role requires excellent writing skills, social competencies, and proficiency in IT and communication technologies. Candidates should demonstrate strong self-organization, quick comprehension, and a service-oriented attitude, along with loyalty, reliability, and teamwork abilities.

Educational Background:
A completed university degree in environmental sciences, economics, political science, agriculture, forestry, biology, geography, or related fields is required. Additional qualifications in biodiversity-related studies or international negotiations would be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in advising clients, particularly in the context of biodiversity and climate-related topics. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with developing countries, especially in Latin America and Southeast Asia, and familiarity with international discussions and processes related to biodiversity and climate protection.

Languages:
Fluency in German and English is mandatory, with additional proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese considered a valuable asset. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in these languages, both verbally and in writing.
