Solidarités International (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters for over 40 years. The organization focuses on meeting vital needs such as access to water, food, and shelter. SI is particularly committed to combating diseases related to unsafe water, which is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. SI operates in 26 countries with a total workforce of 3,200 individuals, including expatriates, national staff, headquarters employees, and a few volunteers. Since 2018, SI has been active in Burkina Faso, primarily in the Northern, Central Northern, Boucle du Mouhoun, and Sahel regions, providing responses in food security, water, sanitation, and emergency shelter to populations affected by the deterioration of their livelihoods due to security issues. The mission in Burkina Faso is relatively new but has seen significant growth, with five operational bases and one coordination base in Ouagadougou.   • The organization has evolved its portfolio to include cash transfer and voucher interventions and is co-leading a transboundary consortium aimed at supporting resilience and reducing conflict in Northern Burkina Faso. SI is also involved in a health and nutrition response project funded by ECHO in the Sahel region.

Job Overview:
The Grants Manager position for the Burkina Faso/Mali mission is based in Ouagadougou, with potential travel to Mali. The role involves monitoring and analyzing funding opportunities, managing project contracts, and developing project proposals for secondary donors. The Grants Manager will also oversee a Reporting & Communication Officer responsible for report preparation and communication. Specific challenges include addressing the recent merger of the Burkina Faso and Mali missions and enhancing the team's capacity in grants management, particularly in reporting and communication. The first two to three months will focus on tracking funding opportunities in Burkina Faso and Mali, contributing to ongoing and upcoming project proposals, and ensuring the timely submission of final reports, particularly for ECHO, in collaboration with the Reporting & Communication Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Grants Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Monitor and analyze funding opportunities in Burkina Faso and Mali.
  • Manage project contracts and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
  • Develop and write project proposals for secondary donors.
  • Supervise the Reporting & Communication Officer and ensure the quality of reports and communication materials.
  • Collaborate with program teams to gather necessary information for proposal development and reporting.
  • Maintain relationships with donors and stakeholders to enhance funding opportunities.
  • Provide training and support to staff on grants management and reporting processes.
  • Ensure that all reporting deadlines are met and that reports are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the mission in relation to funding and grants management. 1
  • Participate in coordination meetings and represent SI in relevant forums.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BAC+4) in international relations, development and humanitarian action, political science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar position within the humanitarian sector.
  • Proven experience in grant management and knowledge of various donors.
  • Strong coordination skills in proposal writing and project development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English (English is an asset).
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage stress effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BAC+4) in fields such as international relations, humanitarian action, political science, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience in the humanitarian sector may also be considered.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in the humanitarian sector, specifically in grants management or a similar role. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing donor relationships and developing successful project proposals.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, while proficiency in English is considered an asset. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills in both languages to effectively engage with donors and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is a short-term contract with a duration of 6 months, renewable based on performance and funding availability. The salary starts at EUR 2,310 gross per month, which includes a base salary and a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 550 is provided. SI covers housing costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's home country and the duty station. During the mission, a work and leave alternation system is in place, allowing for 7 working days off every three months, with an additional day of rest for each month worked. Expatriates are provided with comprehensive health insurance covering medical expenses, including dental and optical care, as well as repatriation costs. Vaccination and malaria treatment expenses are also reimbursed. Living conditions in Ouagadougou are generally pleasant, with a vibrant cultural scene and good access to restaurants and entertainment. However, expatriates are not allowed to drive their personal vehicles, and security measures, including curfews in certain areas, are in place.
