Job Overview:
The Regional Hub security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate (IRH SA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of UNDP personnel and operations within the Istanbul Regional Hub. This position involves implementing security plans, managing safety operations, and providing guidance on security policies to facilitate effective program delivery. The IRH SA will work closely with the Regional advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor and the IRH Operations Advisor to integrate security risk management into all aspects of the Hub's operations. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying security risks and implementing measures to mitigate them, ensuring that UNDP can continue its work in potentially insecure environments. The IRH SA will also be responsible for training staff on security protocols and maintaining communication with various security stakeholders, including local authorities and other UN agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in providing security management support and guidance on security policies to IRH management.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and contribute to the development of security measures for UNDP offices and projects.
  • Support the implementation of the IRH Security Plan and Business Continuity Management.
  • Coordinate with UNDSS to ensure effective emergency response procedures are in place.
  • Monitor compliance with security training requirements for UNDP staff.
  • Provide advice on security equipment procurement and monitor their functionality.
  • Conduct periodic security assessments of UNDP premises and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain communication with security counterparts and provide timely updates on security matters.
  • Represent UNDP in security meetings and contribute to knowledge networks.

Required Qualifications:
  • Secondary Education is required; a university degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in security management, with a background in military or police contexts being advantageous.
  • Familiarity with UN regulations and procedures is desirable.
  • Experience in using office software and security communication systems is required.
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Training in safety and security-related areas is a plus.

Educational Background:
A secondary education is required for this position. A university degree (bachelor’s or master’s equivalent) in Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, or a related field will be considered an asset, although it is not mandatory. Relevant vocational training in security, police, or military contexts is also desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in security management, particularly in military or police contexts. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor's degree may qualify with 4 years of relevant experience. Prior experience with the UN system or international NGOs is highly desirable, as is familiarity with security protocols and risk management practices.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Turkish is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
