Job Overview: The Senior Regional Migrant Response Plan Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the overall information management of the Migrant Response Plan (MRP) unit. This position involves working under the supervision of the Regional Director for East, Horn and Southern Africa and the MRP Programme Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing data collection, analysis, and reporting related to mixed migration movements in the region. This includes developing tools for data management, training partners on data collection methodologies, and ensuring the quality and consistency of data across various countries. The coordinator will also assist in the preparation of annual response plans and situation reports, contributing to evidence-based planning and decision-making processes. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including MRP partners, to facilitate effective information exchange and support the development of indicators and data standards for the MRP framework.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the overall information management of the MRP unit, including data collection, management, and analysis.
Assist in the development of tools and coordination with partners to collate and analyze mixed migration data.
Provide training to partners on data tools, including Kobo, and assist in developing training materials.
Participate in partner consultations to develop indicators and data standards.
Conduct data reviews and analysis using statistical methods to support strategic planning. 1
Facilitate interagency relationships and cooperation at the country and regional levels. 1
Identify barriers to information collection and develop strategies to overcome them. 1
Design graphs and layouts for publication as needed.
Required Qualifications:
University Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven experience in information management, data analysis, and reporting.
Strong understanding of mixed migration dynamics and related data collection methodologies.
Experience in managing client relationships and databases, particularly ODK, is advantageous.
Familiarity with GIS tools and relational databases, including SQL queries and T-SQL programming.
Proficiency in Microsoft Visual Studio (ASP.NET in C#) and Microsoft Access.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle confidential data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
Educational Background: A University Degree in Computer Science or a related field is required. Alternatively, a completed High School/Certificate with five years of relevant experience may be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in data management, analysis, and information technology, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to perform the duties of the position effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in an emergency context, particularly in coordination and project management support functions. Experience working with UN or International Non-Governmental Organizations in the region or continent is essential. Candidates should have a strong background in humanitarian operations, information management, and data analysis, with specific experience in mixed migration analyses and understanding the root causes and drivers of migration. Familiarity with client relationship management and database systems, as well as experience in product development and project management, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of French or any other UN official language is advantageous and will be considered a plus during the selection process.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Kenya will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
