Job Overview: The External Relations Officer will play a crucial role in managing operational information, reporting, partnerships, and communications in response to the corporate emergency in northern Mozambique. This position is vital for supporting the WFP Cabo Delgado Area Office and involves close collaboration with the External Relations unit in the Country Office. The officer will be responsible for developing systems and tools that enhance operational information management (OIM) and performance reporting, ensuring that WFP's emergency response is effectively communicated to both internal and external stakeholders. The role requires a proactive approach to managing information and reporting, contributing to the preparation of key corporate reports, and supporting donor relations through timely proposals and reports. The officer will also engage in communication strategies to enhance WFP's visibility and resource mobilization efforts, ensuring that the organization's mission and activities are effectively communicated to various audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities: The External Relations Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
Contributing to the development of systems and tools for effective operational information management and performance reporting.
Supporting the corporate emergency response through operational reporting and information management, ensuring timely communication to internal and external audiences.
Overseeing the preparation of key corporate reports, including internal situation reports and donor proposals.
Collaborating with various units within WFP and other UN agencies to ensure consistency in humanitarian information.
Providing coaching and guidance to junior staff to enhance their performance in operational information management and reporting.
Supporting donor field visits and ensuring effective communication strategies are implemented to enhance WFP's visibility.
Maintaining the Country Office website and social media accounts, ensuring relevant content is produced and shared.
Preparing topic briefs for high-level meetings and providing regular updates to senior management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information and communicate insights effectively. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as the officer will need to articulate key messages to various stakeholders. The ability to lead and motivate small teams is also required, along with a solid understanding of business principles and processes. Familiarity with UN/WFP specific processes and systems will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to WFP's values and mission, and be able to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in English, Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management, Project Management, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be considered. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the operational needs of WFP.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field, with a background in international relations, humanitarian and development programs, or journalism. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to manage information effectively and contribute to the development of communication strategies that support WFP's mission.
Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory, with a proficiency level of C. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the diverse operational context of Mozambique and for engaging with various stakeholders, including donors and local communities.
