Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Officer position at WFP involves performing security-related tasks that support the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of safety and security measures to protect WFP staff, assets, and operations. The incumbent will focus on the unique security conditions in the Area Office, which may differ from other regions in Somalia. The Security Officer will be responsible for monitoring local and regional security developments, conducting security risk assessments, and supporting the implementation of operational security standards. The position also entails planning and coordinating security arrangements for field missions, maintaining the Area Office Security Plan, and supervising day-to-day security functions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Officer will be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including but not limited to: monitoring local and regional security developments through various reliable sources and providing timely briefings to supervisors; conducting and analyzing security risk assessments in the Area of Responsibility (AoR) and surrounding areas; supporting the implementation and review of Operational Security Standards; planning and coordinating security arrangements for field missions; maintaining and updating the Area Office Security Plan; supervising day-to-day security functions, including oversight of contracted security personnel; maintaining operational security standards for WFP-issued security equipment; supporting UNHAS flight operations relevant to the AoR; liaising with local authorities and other security personnel; providing timely input to incident reports; identifying and coordinating training needs for security personnel; managing the local security database; responding to inquiries related to security; and performing any other security-related duties as required by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completion of secondary school education or a university degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in Security Management, International Relations, Law Enforcement, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated expertise in physical security systems, access control, surveillance technologies, and the practical application of security risk management principles. Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate evolving threats and security incidents are essential. Candidates should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex security information clearly to diverse audiences. Proficiency in standard office software and security-specific tools is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a completion of secondary school education or a university degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in relevant fields such as Security Management, International Relations, or Law Enforcement. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of security management and the operational environment in which WFP operates.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 6 years of relevant experience with a secondary school certificate or a minimum of 2 years of experience in security management if they hold a university degree.
