Job Overview: The position of Local Consultant for Private Sector Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment is crucial for supporting UN Women’s initiative to engage with the private sector in Cambodia. The consultant will be responsible for operational activities that aim to foster partnerships, enhance project operations, and ensure effective communication with stakeholders. This role is particularly focused on advancing gender equality and women's empowerment through the implementation of the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). The consultant will work closely with the Program Analyst-GAL and the Country Programme Coordinator to facilitate the establishment of the Gender Corporate Action Lab, which aims to mobilize private sector resources and expertise for gender equality initiatives. The consultant will also be involved in organizing events, workshops, and meetings to engage private sector stakeholders and promote gender-responsive business practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support coordination and partnership building events by engaging with the Gender Action Lab Informal Advisory Group and identifying potential participants from companies and chamber associations.
Collaborate with the communication team to produce documentation for events and prepare logistical materials for meetings and workshops.
Analyze event results and provide recommendations for future engagements.
Assist in establishing the Gender Corporate Action Lab, including logistics support and maintaining communication with cohort members.
Provide administrative and logistical support for meetings, workshops, and events, ensuring compliance with UN Women policies.
Maintain accurate records of private sector engagements and partnerships, utilizing SharePoint for tracking progress.
Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-ups in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate must possess a Master’s degree in business, social sciences, international relations, media, art, gender, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The candidate should have a minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in private sector engagement, gender equality, or women's economic empowerment. Experience in coordinating and mobilizing participants for events or workshops is essential, along with a solid understanding of women's human rights and gender issues. Proficiency in using standard software packages and managing documents in shared online programs is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as business, social sciences, international relations, media, art, or gender studies. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. Secondary education completion is also a prerequisite for candidates opting for the first-level university degree route.
Experience: Candidates should have at least one year of relevant experience in private sector engagement, gender equality, or women's economic empowerment. This experience should include coordinating events and workshops, as well as a strong understanding of gender issues and community participation. Familiarity with the Women’s Empowerment Principles is considered an asset, and candidates should be adept at using computers and standard software packages.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Khmer is mandatory, both in oral and written forms. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication and engagement with local stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to last from June 1, 2025, to April 1, 2026, with a maximum of 45 working days. The consultant will work in a mix of office and home-based settings and will be compensated on a retainer contract basis. Payment will be made monthly based on the number of days worked, with a 10-day processing period after submission of claims. The consultant will be provided with a workstation and is expected to bring their own personal computer. UN Women will cover travel expenses if travel is required for official duties.
