Job Overview:
The Laboratory Technician (Electronics) will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) at the IAEA. This position involves managing and maintaining various equipment used at the Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration Centre (NSDTC), focusing on control and data acquisition of scientific instruments, microprocessor applications, and information communication technology. The technician will also provide training and technical support for applied research and development projects, as well as training courses offered to experts from Member States. This role is essential for ensuring that the equipment used in nuclear security training is functioning optimally and that trainees are effectively educated in the use of nuclear instrumentation for various applications, including radiation detection and spectrometry. The technician will be expected to work in environments where exposure to radioactive materials may occur, necessitating medical clearance and adherence to safety regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician (Electronics) include assisting the team in the control and data acquisition of scientific instruments, microprocessor applications, and information communication technology related to nuclear security instrumentation. The technician will prepare and ensure that all equipment and training kits required for various nuclear security training courses are in good working order. Additionally, the technician will assist in training fellows and other trainees from Member States on the effective use of nuclear instrumentation for radiation detection, spectrometry, and other nuclear security applications. The role may involve working with radioactive materials, requiring compliance with safety protocols and health monitoring programs as per IAEA regulations. The technician will also be involved in developing methodologies and assisting in security upgrades related to nuclear and radioactive material detection and response capabilities.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires completed secondary education, with post-secondary studies in physics or electronics engineering considered an asset. Candidates should have a minimum of six years of relevant working experience in instrumentation, electronics, and measurement technology. Extensive experience and knowledge of hardware and software interfacing with scientific instruments, virtual instrumentation, and microprocessor applications are essential, preferably in the field of nuclear security instrumentation. Experience in teaching and practical training in this field is also an asset. Candidates must demonstrate good computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and programming languages, as well as familiarity with quality assurance and control measures in a laboratory environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have completed secondary education, and post-secondary studies with certification or a degree in physics or electronics engineering are considered advantageous. Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 66,981, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual vacation, a pension plan, and health insurance.
