Job Overview: The Security Training Specialist (STS) plays a crucial role in the planning, coordination, and execution of safety and security-related training programs in Sudan. Reporting to the Chief Security Adviser and the Field Security Coordination/Training Officer, the STS is responsible for analyzing security information to tailor training content that addresses the evolving security landscape. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying training needs and developing relevant training modules that enhance the safety and security awareness of UN personnel and INGOs. The STS will also be involved in extensive travel across Sudan to deliver training sessions, ensuring that all training activities are aligned with the operational requirements and security protocols of the UN.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Training Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the design and formulation of the UNDSS Sudan safety and security training program; conducting research on existing training content; maintaining an up-to-date library of training materials; developing pre-training and post-training surveys; coordinating with UN agencies and NGOs to identify training gaps; organizing logistics for training sessions; facilitating training courses; providing general administrative support to the Chief Security Adviser and the UNDSS team; and supervising the Security Training Associate. The STS will also be responsible for ensuring that all training sessions are conducted professionally and that feedback is collected to improve future training initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in Political Science, Military Studies, Security Management, Management, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience will be considered. Desirable qualifications include applicable security, police, or military training, as well as additional certifications in education, training delivery, or adult learning.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field. A Bachelor’s degree may be acceptable if accompanied by additional qualifying work experience. Candidates with certifications in training delivery or adult learning will have an advantage.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree or four years with a Bachelor’s degree in security, preferably in military or police contexts. Experience in designing training programs, conducting training needs assessments, and delivering safety and security training is essential. Familiarity with UN systems or international NGOs in safety and security is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Port Sudan but requires extensive travel throughout the country and potentially to neighboring regions, including Chad. The role is classified as an 'E' hardship and a non-family duty station, indicating the challenging operational environment. The incumbent will be expected to manage logistics for training sessions, coordinate with various stakeholders, and ensure compliance with local regulations. The position may involve a probationary period for new appointments, and UNDP reserves the right to select multiple candidates from this vacancy announcement.
