Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a specific interest in migration-related issues. The Medical Intern position is particularly focused on supporting the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Manila, Philippines. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The role involves assisting with various tasks related to health assessments, data entry, and communication with migrants. Interns will gain valuable experience in an international multicultural environment and will have the opportunity to learn about IOM's work in migration health, management, and international cooperation. The internship provides a small monthly stipend to help offset living costs, and interns are encouraged to consider the cost of living in Manila before applying.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Medical Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC). These include:
Communications Centre Duties: - Registering migrants in the IOM database and other medical web applications. - Scheduling and confirming medical appointments. - Receiving and communicating messages for medical staff and beneficiaries through program-specific mailboxes and calls, including walk-in applicants. - Maintaining daily statistics related to health assessments and updating records.
Reception and Data Entry Duties: - Performing data processing activities for the United Kingdom TB Screening (UKTB) and Japan Pre-entry Tuberculosis Screening (JPETS). - Receiving and explaining the registration process to applicants. - Checking the applicant’s identity and entering biodata into the appropriate platform. - Taking photos using a webcam and loading images to the appropriate platform. - Printing medical forms, consent forms, and other necessary documents. - Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong interest in migration health and related fields. They should be either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months. A certificate in data entry is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate high computer literacy, particularly in Windows and MS Office applications, and possess a typing speed of at least 60 words per minute.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be completing a degree in Communications, Administration, or related fields from an accredited academic institution. A background in health sciences or social sciences may also be beneficial, depending on the specific focus of the internship.
Experience: The position is aimed at individuals with less than two years of relevant working experience. This internship is particularly suitable for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of migration health and international cooperation.
Languages: Fluency in English and Tagalog is required for this position. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process. Interns will be covered against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) for the duration of their assignment. The internship is a full-time position, and candidates are expected to work onsite.
