Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The internship opportunity is available within the United Nations, specifically in the NGO Relations, Advocacy & Special Events Section of the Outreach Division, Department of Global Communications. Job Overview:
This internship is designed to be a full-time, in-person role in New York City, although adjustments can be made to accommodate the successful candidate's needs. The internship is expected to last for six months, during which the intern will work closely with the Programme Manager of the Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS). The primary focus of this position is to connect the UN with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and assist in disseminating information about the UN's activities. The intern will engage in various tasks that support the mission of the Civil Society Unit, which collaborates with CSOs aligned with UN objectives. This role is crucial for facilitating civil society participation in UN events and conferences, thereby enhancing the outreach and impact of the UN's initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties under the supervision of the Programme Manager, including: screening and reviewing registration applications for high-level events supported by NGLS; analyzing and compiling data for registration statistics; creating infographics and reports for events; reviewing and compiling stories from CSOs to be featured on the CSU website; designing social media content and event flyers; monitoring and responding to the office's generic email; assisting with the NGLS Annual report; planning events and taking meeting minutes; organizing Civil Society Unit briefings and special events; providing technical support during meetings; and performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. The ability to draft emails, publications, or knowledge of social media posts is also desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either being currently enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor’s degree program. The field of study should ideally relate to the functions of the internship, such as communications, international relations, or a similar discipline.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include internships, volunteer work, or projects related to communications, advocacy, or civil society engagement.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.

This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns must provide their own hardware, software, and internet connection if required to perform the internship remotely. The internship is full-time, requiring up to five days of work per week (35 hours).
