ESCAP supports its member states through policy-oriented research, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building to address development priorities and changing needs. The Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), based in Beijing, is a regional institute of ESCAP that focuses on enhancing technical cooperation among member states through knowledge sharing, research, and development in sustainable agricultural mechanization and technology, aiming to achieve internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 37.5 hours per week for a minimum duration of two months, with the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned, and their responsibilities will vary based on their background and the duration of the internship. This role provides an opportunity to engage in meaningful projects that contribute to sustainable development initiatives in the Asia and Pacific region, while also allowing interns to develop their professional skills and network within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks that support ongoing projects and initiatives at ESCAP. Specific duties may include:
Providing support to ongoing projects, which may involve research, data analysis, and project documentation.
Assisting in social media outreach to promote ESCAP's initiatives and engage with stakeholders.
Offering administrative support, which may include scheduling meetings, organizing files, and managing communications.
Working on presentations, which may involve creating slides, compiling information, and preparing materials for meetings or workshops.

This could encompass areas such as international relations, development studies, environmental science, agricultural sciences, or other related disciplines that align with the mission and work of ESCAP and CSAM.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in project management, research, or administrative roles would be advantageous. Interns are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic environment of the United Nations, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural setting.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the region or the work of ESCAP.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of China may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization prior to starting the internship.
