Job Overview:
The Administrative Intern position at the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in China is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in the workings of the UN system at the country level. The intern will support the RCO in its mission to enhance the coherence of the UN System in China, which involves strategic analysis, planning, and inter-agency coordination. This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn about the operational policies and procedures in Human Resources, Administration, Finance, and Procurement within the UN framework. The intern will work full-time for six months, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to the UN's efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the daily operations of the RCO. These duties may include:
  • Assisting with Human Resources documentation and administrative tasks, ensuring compliance with UN policies.
  • Supporting staff members with reimbursement processes and managing inventory and asset records.
  • Providing logistical and operational support for events and conferences organized by the RCO.
  • Conducting market research and drafting analysis reports related to procurement activities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of evaluation reports and ensuring quality checks are performed on procurement procedures.
  • Collaborating with team members to enhance the overall program impact of the UN System in China.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum master's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have a field of study closely related to the internship type they are applying for, such as international relations, public administration, or human resources management.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a relevant educational background, which may include a graduate degree or be in the final year of a first university degree programme. Fields of study that are particularly relevant include international relations, public administration, human resources, finance, or any other related discipline that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate a strong academic background and relevant coursework that aligns with the duties of the position. Experience in administrative roles, volunteer work, or internships in related fields may be beneficial but is not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required for the internship. Additionally, knowledge of French is advantageous, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in these languages will facilitate effective communication within the UN environment and with various stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to work full-time, which entails a commitment of five days per week for a total of 40 hours. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
