Job Overview: The Partnership Intern position at the UN in China is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the development of public-private partnerships in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2026-2030). The intern will work under the supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, engaging in various tasks that enhance the UN's collaborative efforts with China, particularly in the context of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring a commitment of five days a week, eight hours a day, for a duration of six months. The selected candidate is expected to start before the end of December 2025, with the contract lasting from December 2025 to June 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnership Intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the organization of major events for the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO), which involves logistics support and drafting briefing documents and speeches.
Compiling and preparing briefing and presentation materials, as well as background information and documentation on key policies and developments in China.
Assisting in the organization and follow-up of inter-agency and high-level meetings or events attended by the Resident Coordinator or RCO staff members.
Providing logistical and substantive support to incoming high-level UN delegations. The intern will play a vital role in ensuring that these events and meetings are well-organized and effectively communicated, contributing to the overall success of the UN's initiatives in China.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be currently enrolled as a junior or senior undergraduate student or have already obtained a bachelor's degree or equivalent. While professional work experience is not required for this internship, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Additionally, applicants must possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Strong analytical skills, the ability to build relationships with clients, and the capability to work independently are essential functional competencies. Familiarity with designing surveys and drafting documents is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being a junior or senior student in a bachelor's degree program, currently enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program, or having completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. This ensures that candidates have the necessary academic foundation to engage with the UN's work effectively and contribute meaningfully to the Partnership Intern role.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to public-private partnerships, sustainable development, or international relations, which would provide a practical understanding of the UN's mission and operations.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
