Job Overview: The Team Leader will oversee the FCDO-funded Women to Women security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Phase 2 programme in Somalia, which is part of the Integrated Security Fund's Women, Peace, and Security component. This programme aims to enhance women's meaningful participation in addressing security and safety issues that affect women and girls at the community and local levels. The Team Leader will be responsible for providing leadership, management, and strategic vision to ensure the programme meets its targets and deliverables on time and within budget. This role involves supervising programme staff, ensuring accountability to Mercy Corps policies and FCDO regulations, and acting as the primary representative of the programme to various stakeholders, including FCDO and government entities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Team Leader will lead the development of a shared vision and strategy for the programme, ensuring that all partners and stakeholders have a common understanding of the programme's objectives. They will play an active role in identifying and developing new initiatives that align with the programme's strategic goals. The Team Leader will ensure high-quality programme implementation that delivers the desired impact, translating the overarching strategy into an operational work plan. They will provide leadership to ensure that the programme is executed with quality, accountability, and measurable impact, while also supporting the strategic growth of peace and development initiatives within Mercy Corps.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record in programme management, particularly in the context of security and governance. They should have experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government entities and international donors. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment, particularly in the context of security and governance.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, development studies, or social sciences is required. A master's degree is preferred and may be considered an asset for candidates applying for this position.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5-7 years of experience in programme management, with a focus on security, governance, or women's empowerment initiatives. Experience working in conflict-affected settings, particularly in Somalia or similar contexts, is highly desirable. Proven experience in managing multi-stakeholder programmes and partnerships is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Somali or other local languages is considered an asset and will be advantageous for effective communication within the community and with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and may involve travel within Somalia. The contract duration is subject to funding availability and programme needs. Compensation and benefits will be commensurate with experience and in line with Mercy Corps policies.
