Job Overview: The position of Praktikant*in in der EU Demokratieförderung is situated within the Team Europe Democracy (TED), a global initiative launched in December 2021 to strengthen democracy and human rights worldwide. This initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), and it aims to establish a strategically coordinated European response to promote democracy. The intern will work at the intersection of EU ministries, the European Commission, and development cooperation organizations, taking on diverse and challenging tasks that contribute to the visibility and effectiveness of TED's work. Responsibilities include preparing country engagements, creating presentations and background papers, and participating in multi-actor exchange formats and meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Assisting in internal and external communication to enhance the visibility and impact of TED's work and results.
Contributing to the substantive preparation of country engagements, such as country analyses and instrument concepts.
Creating presentations, briefings, and background papers related to democracy-promoting measures.
Participating in multi-actor exchange formats and meetings, taking notes and minutes during internal and external meetings.
Collaborating with team members to develop innovative approaches and solutions in the field of democracy promotion.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least a completed undergraduate degree or a bachelor's degree in political science, administrative science, social science, law, economics, or a related field. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to present information clearly and target audiences effectively. Analytical skills are necessary to quickly grasp new and complex issues, and candidates should have a keen interest in developing and implementing innovative approaches. Proficiency in English is required, and native-level German is expected. Organizational skills, teamwork, flexibility, and the ability to manage time effectively under pressure are also important.
Educational Background: A completed undergraduate degree or bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as political science, administrative science, social science, law, economics, or a comparable area is required for this position. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a program that includes an internship as an integral part or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: While prior experience in development cooperation or knowledge of democracy-related topics is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement. Practical experience in developing countries is beneficial but not mandatory. The focus is on the candidate's ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while native-level proficiency in German is required. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly stated as necessary for this position.
