Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director is responsible for the overall management and smooth operation of the mission in Syria. This includes overseeing and consolidating the mission strategy in alignment with the geopolitical and humanitarian context, ensuring its implementation, and monitoring project progress in accordance with the Solidarités International charter and internal procedures. The Country Director represents the organization at high levels of engagement with donors, media, international agencies, and regional platforms. They are tasked with mobilizing the necessary material and financial resources for effective program operation, supervising resource administration, coordinating teams, overseeing security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security procedures, and managing incidents. The role also involves direct liaison with Solidarités International’s headquarters. In the initial months, the Country Director will focus on restructuring the mission, strengthening SI's influence, updating the country strategy for 2026-2028, and ensuring continuity of donor engagement amidst a rapidly evolving funding landscape.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the smooth running of the mission and oversee the implementation of the mission strategy.
Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with internal and contractual procedures.
Represent the organization with donors, media, and international agencies.
Mobilize material and financial resources necessary for program effectiveness.
Supervise the administration of resources and coordinate teams.
Oversee security procedures and manage incidents.
Liaise directly with Solidarités International’s headquarters.
Complete the restructuring of the mission and base-level reorganizations.
Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders and update the country strategy. 1
Ensure continuity of donor engagement and adapt the business development plan to the changing funding landscape.
Required Qualifications:
More than 3 years of experience in a similar position.
More than 5 years of experience in the field.
Strong skills in strategy development, representation, donor engagement, and internal communication.
Experience in Syria or other Middle Eastern countries is a strong asset.
Experience working with ECHO and BHA is advantageous.
Proven experience in high-level partnership development.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in international relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field is typically required for this position. Advanced degrees may be preferred, depending on the specific requirements of the organization and the complexity of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior management role within the humanitarian sector, with a strong background in program management and strategic planning. Experience in conflict-affected areas, particularly in the Middle East, is highly desirable.
Languages:
Excellent proficiency in English is mandatory.
Proficiency in Arabic is strongly recommended.
Knowledge of French is considered a bonus and may enhance communication with certain stakeholders.

The salary is competitive, starting from EUR 3,740 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additional benefits include accommodation costs, travel expenses, and a monthly per diem. The organization also provides a break system, allowing for time off every three months, along with a break allowance. Expatriates are covered by a comprehensive insurance package that includes healthcare expenses and repatriation. Living conditions in Damascus are generally good, although power supply can be unstable, and security must be monitored closely due to the changing political landscape.
