Job Overview: The Information Management Specialist position is located in the FAO Country Office in Syria, specifically within the Food Security and Agricultural-Livelihoods Sector (FSAL). This sector is co-led by FAO and the World Food Programme (WFP) and is crucial for designing, monitoring, and coordinating responses during humanitarian crises. The specialist will play a vital role in managing and analyzing information related to food security interventions across Syria. Key functions include leading data collection, processing, and validation, producing analytical outputs such as dashboards and reports, and supporting decision-making with evidence-based insights. The role also involves maintaining sector information systems, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with various partners to enhance information sharing and coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Management Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including reporting to the Food Security and Agricultural-Livelihoods Sector Coordinator and supporting the Information Management department strategy. Duties include developing reports by providing consolidated national-level data and analysis, processing data related to food insecurity, and producing regular analytical outputs. The specialist will manage the collection and presentation of data relevant to the sector, maintain national-level contact directories, and support the update of the 5Ws database. Additionally, the role involves maintaining the Emergency Tracker, conducting capacity-building training for sector partners, and liaising with OCHA and other sectors to inform food security responses. The specialist will also support the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification and perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analysis, Statistics, Social Sciences, or related fields. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in information management or related fields is required, with preference given to candidates with experience working with UN Agencies in humanitarian contexts. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, and knowledge of SPSS is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage tight deadlines, handle confidential information with discretion, and possess excellent organizational skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in fields such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analysis, Statistics, or Social Sciences. Candidates must have their qualifications recognized by an institution accredited in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in information management or related fields. Experience working with UN Agencies, particularly in humanitarian contexts, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of data management and analysis within the framework of food security and agricultural livelihoods.
Languages: Candidates must have a working knowledge of both English and Arabic, as these languages are essential for effective communication within the role and with various stakeholders.
