Job Overview:
The internship is located within the HIV/AIDS Section (HAS) of the Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB) at UNODC in Vienna, Austria. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of professional staff and will be expected to contribute to various projects and initiatives. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in a dynamic international organization, allowing the intern to develop skills in research, writing, event organization, and social media management. The position is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, although part-time arrangements may be negotiated.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will assist the HIV team with a variety of tasks, including:
  • Reviewing and drafting technical publications, project documents, and briefing materials, ensuring a human-rights based and gender-responsive approach.
  • Supporting the organization and preparation of events and workshops, which may involve gathering documentation, coordinating agendas, and preparing related materials. Basic graphic design skills are desired for creating promotional materials.
  • Updating HIV-related country profiles through desk research and drafting, as well as developing new infographics.

  • Performing additional tasks as necessary to support the team's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Austria may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
