Job Overview: The Data VisualizationDesigner will play a crucial role in supporting Data Lab Indonesia by creating engaging and impactful visual materials that align with the organization's mission and strategic objectives. This position involves producing high-quality visual design assets for various communication channels, including websites, infographics, blogs, social media, publications, and events. The designer will work under the direct supervision of the Engagement and Research Analyst and will collaborate closely with the Data Lab Indonesia team and cross-functional teams to ensure consistency in messaging and branding. The role requires a proactive approach to integrating equity into the work and organizational culture, in line with WRI's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The position is based in Jakarta, with an office-flex working arrangement and travel as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Visualization Designer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: translating complex datasets into visually compelling narratives that support Data Lab Indonesia’s mission; designing and developing engaging visual materials across print, digital, and motion formats; creating data-driven visual content for various platforms such as events, presentations, social media, and the web; ensuring compliance with WRI’s brand guidelines; contributing design expertise to the visual development process; creating functional prototypes of interactive visualizations or digital products; performing advanced photo and video editing; managing image and video sourcing; ensuring printed materials meet quality standards; assisting with ad-hoc data visualization tasks as needed; collaborating with the Data Lab Indonesia team and external partners on creative projects; and supporting outreach and online engagement efforts by refining visual assets for website content and social media platforms.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, media and communications, or related fields. A minimum of 3 years of experience in graphic design or related areas is required, along with at least 2 years of experience in data visualizations, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate chart types and familiarity with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Flourish. Proficiency in designing and prototyping interactive data visualizations using no-code/low-code platforms is essential. Candidates should have excellent command of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, and the ability to produce high-quality drafts of communications products with minimal supervision. Strong visual design skills, creative and analytical thinking, and the ability to coordinate efforts with various stakeholders are also necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, media and communications, or a related field. This foundational education is critical for understanding the principles of design, visual communication, and the technical skills needed to create effective visual materials.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in graphic design or related fields, with at least 2 years specifically focused on data visualizations. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of data visualization principles and tools, as well as experience in producing high-quality visual content for diverse audiences.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Indonesian and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus, but the primary requirement is strong communication skills in both Indonesian and English to effectively engage with various stakeholders.

The consultant will be compensated at a daily rate, with a maximum of 144 working days over the contract period, averaging 18 working days per month. Travel insurance will be provided for both domestic and international travel duties assigned by WRI Indonesia. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and provide two writing samples as needed.
