Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the City Climate Finance Gap Fund, which is a global partnership involving two multi-donor trust funds managed by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The Gap Fund aims to assist cities worldwide in preparing infrastructure investments that address climate change adaptation and mitigation. The projects supported by the Gap Fund cover various sectors, including transport, energy, water, green spaces, urban infrastructure, and waste management. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the project team by conducting research, managing knowledge and documentation, organizing events, and assisting in monitoring and evaluation processes. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in urban infrastructure investment and climate finance while contributing to meaningful projects that have a global impact.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the preparation of background information through internal and external research in urban infrastructure sectors such as energy, transport, green spaces, water, and waste management.
Assisting in knowledge and document management, particularly in collecting, structuring, and preparing technical advisory materials for specific cities in low and middle-income countries.
Helping organize and prepare high-level conferences and events, including drafting concept notes, managing logistics, and taking notes during events.
Contributing to the Monitoring and Evaluation processes by assisting in operational planning and updating indicators.
Aiding in the development of communication materials, including blogs, factsheets, and social media content.
Supporting various administrative and organizational tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program or have graduated within the last six months in fields such as urban development, economics, engineering, public policy, or equivalent. Additionally, the following skills and experiences are required:
Knowledge or prior work experience/internships in city administrations, municipal service providers, or international organizations.
Basic understanding of investment project preparation and urban development processes.
Familiarity with the international climate change debate, climate finance, and climate action reporting schemes.
Understanding of technical assistance provided to national or subnational stakeholders in developing countries and emerging economies.
A proactive self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proven proficiency in English, with additional language skills in French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian considered an asset.
Enthusiasm for working in a multi-disciplinary and intercultural team, along with the ability to efficiently structure information and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in urban development, economics, engineering, public policy, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in urban infrastructure investment and climate finance.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, which can include internships or work experience in relevant fields such as urban development, city administrations, or international organizations. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with the processes and challenges in urban infrastructure and climate finance is highly beneficial.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the team and for documentation. Additionally, knowledge of other languages such as French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian is considered advantageous and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and project partners.
