Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position focuses on supporting the project team in addressing the critical issues of biodiversity loss and climate change. The intern will be involved in various tasks related to the nexus of biodiversity and climate, particularly in providing technical inputs, policy advice, and facilitating exchanges during negotiations under the UN Biodiversity Convention (CBD) and the Paris Agreement. The project aims to enhance the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Agreement by advising partner countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, and Thailand on the development of implementation instruments. The intern will also contribute to integrated approaches that promote synergies between biodiversity conservation and climate action, ensuring that gender-responsive formats and knowledge products are utilized effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will support the project team with a range of tasks, including: assisting in knowledge management, conducting research and text analyses (e.g., negotiation documents), and preparing results for reports and presentations; providing technical support on synergies between biodiversity and climate protection, particularly in ecosystem-based adaptation; participating in internal and external expert events (e.g., webinars, seminars, conferences) related to climate negotiations; coordinating with other GIZ projects and external partners focused on biodiversity and climate protection; assisting in the development of internal monitoring and reporting tools; creating communication materials for the project, including website and newsletter contributions; and supporting the logistical and content-related preparation, execution, and follow-up of meetings/events, including the creation of presentations, reports, and minutes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be enrolled in a degree program related to one or more of the thematic areas relevant to the position, such as political science, geography, biology, forestry, environmental sciences, economics, or other relevant fields. A strong interest in European and international political processes, particularly in development cooperation, is essential. Candidates should have gained initial experience through internships or studies, demonstrating their commitment to applying this knowledge in the context of international collaboration. Additionally, familiarity with biodiversity conservation, natural climate protection, ecosystem-based adaptation, and resource efficiency is preferred. Strong organizational skills, effective communication, teamwork, and attention to detail are crucial, along with the ability to quickly adapt to new topics and work independently.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be currently enrolled in a relevant degree program or in a training program that includes an internship as an integral part. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated within the last six months are also eligible to apply. This educational background ensures that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of the issues at hand.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some prior experience, which can be gained through internships or academic projects related to biodiversity, climate change, or international cooperation. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage with complex topics and contribute effectively to team efforts.
Languages: Fluency in German as a native language or at a very high level is required, along with negotiation-level proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with partners in relevant countries.
