Job Posting Organization:
The Stabilisation Platform supports the engagement of the Federal Foreign Office in crisis and conflict contexts worldwide. It provides advice to the Department for Crisis Prevention, Stabilisation, and Post-Conflict Care, as well as the entire Department S, in developing tailored governance and stabilisation concepts in fragile contexts, particularly in Africa and Latin America.

Job Overview:
The Mediation Support and Peacebuilding Team (MSP) is part of the Stabilisation Platform. It supports Department S with professional expertise in peace processes, particularly in the design and implementation of initiatives in the areas of peace mediation, negotiation, and dialogue promotion, as well as peacebuilding and peace finance. The MSP advises on operational and conceptual issues and assists the Federal Foreign Office in drafting, steering, and implementing instruments, concepts, and strategies of German peace policy. The focus of this position is on the area of Peacebuilding, where the successful candidate will provide operational and strategic advice to the Federal Foreign Office, particularly in the context of peacebuilding and crisis prevention, and support the practical development of strategies, concepts, and project approaches, especially within the UN framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the Federal Foreign Office in the area of Peacebuilding, particularly:
  • Provide professional and operational advice to the Federal Foreign Office on peacebuilding and crisis prevention.
  • Assist in the practical development of strategies, concepts, and project approaches, primarily within the UN framework.
  • Provide conceptual advice on peacebuilding and crisis prevention, including analysis of relevant current developments.
  • Support the development and implementation of concrete initiatives to conceptually and operationally strengthen peacebuilding approaches, in close collaboration with relevant partners.
  • Draft concepts, as well as conduct analysis and research activities within the advisory project.
  • Participate in internal and external coordination and alignment processes.
  • Collaborate closely within the MSP team and the SPF on other thematic areas.

Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive professional experience in the field of peacebuilding in a multilateral context, including in crisis contexts and at the headquarters of multilateral organizations, preferably the UN.
  • Practical experience in strategy and policy consulting in the international diplomatic environment.
  • Project implementation experience in crisis/conflict areas, as well as practical work experience with the UN, EU, or OSCE in the field of peace promotion or crisis prevention.
  • Very good conceptual and practical knowledge of current debates on peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and the HDP nexus.
  • Strong analytical and strategic understanding, as well as experience in conceptually preparing practical challenges.
  • Team-oriented, highly committed, and possessing good communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to write high-quality texts, including political content, clearly and understandably in German and English.
  • Negotiation-level proficiency in German and English.
  • Willingness to travel, including to crisis countries.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in international relations, political science, peace studies, or a related field is typically required, although specific educational requirements were not detailed in the job posting.
