Job Overview: The Programme Management Office (PMO) Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the PMO's activities aimed at enhancing project management office capacity. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Head of PMO, assisting in various tasks that include data extraction and analysis, project health checks, and the coordination of meetings. The intern will also help in developing program management dashboards and compiling progress reports, thereby contributing to the overall governance and management of projects within the AUMCO. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management within a global organization, while also providing access to high-level meetings and key stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's primary duties will include supporting the PMO Team in data extraction and collection, assisting in data analysis and structuring, and compiling updates for management. The intern will conduct periodic project health checks, coordinate assurance tasks, and improve project management maturity. Additional responsibilities include organizing meetings, preparing minutes, tracking progress, coordinating knowledge sharing sessions, and assisting in the development of program management dashboards. The intern will also support documentation management processes, provide oversight of project financial data, and assist in the rollout of capacity building and training plans. The role requires participation in meetings and initiatives led by the Head of PMO, as well as performing administrative support tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have completed a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or be enrolled in a postgraduate program, preferably in fields related to International Affairs, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Project Management, or Engineering. Prior project management certification is highly desirable. While no prior work experience is required, some experience in programme/project management or administration is considered an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite is essential, particularly for creating presentations and performing basic functions in Excel/Google Sheets. Experience with Google Data Studio is also desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or enrollment in a postgraduate program. Candidates should have graduated within three years prior to the start date of the internship. The area of study should preferably relate to International Affairs, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Project Management, or Engineering, with some programme management experience being desirable. Prior project management certification is highly regarded.
Experience: While no prior work experience is mandatory for this internship, having some experience in programme/project management, administration, or related fields would be beneficial. This internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional environment, particularly within the context of international development and project management.
Languages: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required for this position. Knowledge of any other UN language would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse workplace.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time position with a contract duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension for up to 12 months. It is important to note that this internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship. Interns will receive a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. Additionally, UNOPS may offer a one-time travel lump sum for relocation if applicable, but interns are responsible for their own accommodation, travel, and visa arrangements.
