Solidarités International (SI) has been operational in South Sudan since 2006, focusing on emergency and post-emergency contexts, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The organization has a mission to provide humanitarian assistance in response to food insecurity, cholera outbreaks, and other crises affecting the population. SI operates in various regions, including Upper Nile, where it has established offices to support ongoing responses to crises, ensuring coordination with other key players to deliver high-quality assistance. The organization employs over 70 staff members and has an estimated budget of over USD 5 million for its operations in 2025, reflecting a scale-down due to funding cuts but with plans for relaunching activities.

Job Overview:
The Grants Manager will play a crucial role in the strategic development of the mission, working closely with both the Program Coordinator and Field Coordinator. This position involves monitoring and identifying funding opportunities that align with the organization's country and global strategies. The Grants Manager will oversee the preparation of high-quality proposals, reports, and contract modifications for submission to donors and consortium partners. Additionally, the role includes ensuring compliance with donor procedures throughout the grant cycle and building the capacity of staff on internal accountability tools and donor procedures. The Grants Manager will also centralize documentation for audits and develop partnerships with national organizations to reinforce SI's localization strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Grants Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Contributing to the mission’s strategic development by identifying and pursuing funding opportunities.
  • Overseeing the compilation of proposals, reports, and contract modifications for submission to donors.
  • Monitoring compliance with donor procedures throughout the grant cycle.
  • Building capacity among staff regarding internal accountability tools and donor procedures.
  • Following up on donor contractual obligations from contracting to closing and archiving.
  • Centralizing and preparing documentation for external audits.
  • Developing partnerships with national organizations and managing consortium partnerships.
  • Addressing challenges related to funding diversification and capacity building of field staff.
  • Prioritizing localization strategies and portfolio diversification in response to funding cuts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related discipline. They should have 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a strong background in developing proposals for institutional donors, drafting donor reports, and strategy papers. Technical skills required include experience in capacity building, managing audits, compliance risks, and budget follow-up. Excellent writing skills and proficiency in Excel are essential, along with experience in developing localization strategies.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian or development studies, social sciences, or management is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the skills necessary for effective grant management.

Experience:
The position requires 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a focus on grants and partnership management. Candidates should have a proven track record in developing proposals, managing donor relationships, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. Experience in capacity building and localization strategies is also highly valued, as is prior experience working in South Sudan, which would be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local partners and stakeholders.

  • The role is based in Juba, South Sudan, where living conditions include shared accommodation with other international employees. The salary starts from EUR 2310 gross per month, with additional benefits such as a monthly per diem of USD 700, accommodation costs covered, and travel expenses reimbursed. Expatriates also receive an insurance package covering healthcare expenses and a break allowance during the assignment.
