Job Overview:

Interns will work under the guidance of the Partnership and Communications Analyst and the UNDP Nordic Office director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director. The role is designed for individuals who are structured, independent, creative, and willing to take initiative. Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks, contributing to the office's work and gaining valuable experience in the field of international development. The position requires flexibility and a willingness to take on fixed assignments as well as additional responsibilities as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the office's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with conducting analysis on the political landscape, official development assistance (ODA), and budget of Baltic countries, particularly focusing on Estonia. They will support the development and publication of communications materials through various social media channels, including LinkedIn and X. Additionally, interns will assist in planning and conducting public events such as conferences, seminars, and report launches. They will also be responsible for translating news articles, media pitches, and other texts between English and Estonian. Other duties include preparing briefing materials for seminars, meetings, and international visits, as well as providing administrative support to the office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills in both English and Estonian, with proficiency in written and oral forms. Knowledge of Latvian and/or Lithuanian is considered an advantage. A strong interest in global development and familiarity with the work of international organizations is essential. Candidates should be team players who can work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals, possess good organizational and time management skills, and be able to work independently. Familiarity with the UN, UNDP, and the Sustainable Development Goals is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent); have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and must start the internship within one year of graduation; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who may not have extensive professional experience but are eager to learn and contribute to the UNDP's mission. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of global development issues and the workings of international organizations, as well as a willingness to engage in various tasks and responsibilities.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written Estonian and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Latvian and/or Lithuanian is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the context of the internship.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, but interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend that varies depending on the duty location. The stipend will be paid monthly, and if an intern is financially supported by an institution, government, or third party, UNDP will cover the difference between the external financial support and the applicable UNDP stipend. All other expenses related to the internship will be the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring government or institution. Interns are not considered staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity. The internship is intended to complement the intern's studies, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
