Job Posting Organization:
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to promote social justice and fair labor practices. Established in 1919, the ILO has a mission to ensure that labor standards are upheld globally, focusing on promoting rights at work, encouraging decent employment opportunities, enhancing social protection, and strengthening dialogue on work-related issues. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within its workforce, valuing the contributions of individuals from various backgrounds, including those with disabilities and underrepresented member states.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in an international organization. Interns will engage directly with the work of the ILO, contributing to the application of its principles, programs, and strategies. The internship is designed to enhance understanding of international labor issues while providing hands-on experience related to the intern's field of study. Interns will be involved in various aspects of evaluation work, including the management and execution of evaluations, data collection, and dissemination of results. This position is ideal for those looking to deepen their knowledge of international labor standards and practices while working in a multicultural environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for supporting the Evaluation Office in various tasks, including but not limited to: tracking and reporting on evaluation activities and outcomes within the ILO; conducting document reviews and supporting high-level strategic evaluations; assisting in meta-analysis and studies on program quality and effectiveness; evaluating knowledge management products; and contributing to the development of tools and guidelines for impact evaluation. Interns will also dedicate 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks, ensuring that they gain a comprehensive understanding of the operational aspects of the Evaluation Office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously interned at the ILO, and should be enrolled in or have completed a master's or doctoral program within the last year. A practical knowledge of English is mandatory, and candidates should possess strong analytical skills, particularly in socio-economic data analysis. Familiarity with evaluation methods and the development project cycle is also essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with data analysis software such as NVivo and SPSS.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be enrolled in or have recently completed a master's degree in social sciences, economics, public administration, or a related field. Coursework in evaluation and applied research methodologies is preferred, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
Interns are expected to have experience in conducting research and academic courses focused on research methods. Demonstrable experience in analyzing socio-economic data is crucial, as is the ability to write and edit effectively in English, French, or Spanish. Experience in database management and knowledge of evaluation methods will be highly regarded, as will any prior work experience in international development, particularly at the national level.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, along with practical knowledge of either French or Spanish. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication within the multicultural environment of the ILO.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution. Additionally, a contribution of 45 CHF per month will be provided to assist with medical insurance costs during the internship. Candidates from underrepresented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not charge any fees during the application process and does not require candidates to provide bank details.
