The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) was established by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 39/2, adopted on 27 September 201
  • The creation of the Mechanism was welcomed by the General Assembly in its resolution 73/264, adopted on 22 December 201
  • The IIMM aims to collect, analyze, and preserve evidence of the most serious international crimes committed in Myanmar, particularly focusing on sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against children. The organization operates with a commitment to uphold human rights and ensure accountability for violations, working in collaboration with various stakeholders including national and international judicial bodies, civil society organizations, and other UN entities. The IIMM is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is part of the broader United Nations system, which emphasizes the importance of human rights and justice globally. The organization is staffed by a diverse group of professionals dedicated to investigating and addressing serious human rights violations, and it plays a crucial role in the international community's response to the crisis in Myanmar.

Job Overview:
The Associate Information Analyst (SGBC/CAAC) will be responsible for conducting preliminary reviews and analyses of information related to sexual and gender-based crimes (SGBC) and crimes against and affecting children (CAAC) in Myanmar. This role involves utilizing analytical software to support investigations and develop analytical products that inform decision-making processes. The incumbent will gather, evaluate, and analyze information to identify gaps and inconsistencies, contributing to the development of research and analysis strategies. The position requires collaboration with various organizations and individuals, organizing interviews with witnesses, and maintaining internal databases to support ongoing investigations. The Associate Information Analyst will also participate in briefings and conferences with IIMM personnel and external actors, ensuring effective communication and coordination in the collection and analysis of information relevant to SGBC and CAAC.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Information Analyst include:
  • Conducting preliminary reviews and analyses of information in Myanmar languages and English related to SGBC and CAAC.
  • Utilizing analytical software to support investigations and develop analytical products.
  • Gathering, collecting, evaluating, and analyzing information to identify relevance, gaps, and inconsistencies.
  • Assisting in the development of research and analysis strategies, including gender and intersectional analysis.
  • Conducting research to identify relevant evidence and open-source information.
  • Organizing and synthesizing information to advance IIMM investigations.
  • Liaising and coordinating with relevant organizations and individuals, making logistical arrangements for incidents related to SGBC or CAAC.
  • Organizing and conducting interviews of witnesses, particularly those related to SGBC or CAAC.
  • Maintaining and updating IIMM's internal databases and using information management processes for evidence collection and preservation. 1
  • Participating in briefings and conferences with IIMM personnel and external actors. 1
  • Performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Associate Information Analyst position include:
  • Demonstrated ability and skills in conducting investigative analysis of sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against children.
  • Strong analytical and evaluative skills with a gender-sensitive and child-friendly approach.
  • Knowledge of strategies for complex criminal investigations and building criminal case files.
  • Ability to analyze complex political and military activities related to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
  • Good judgment in the context of assignments.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and maintain flexibility.
  • Confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a high-tech environment.
  • Commitment to gender balance in staffing and incorporating gender perspectives in work.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as Asian studies, conflict or security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security studies, women's or gender studies, information management, law, social science, or related areas. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience analyzing serious international crimes, including SGBC and/or CAAC, is required. Experience analyzing information related to Myanmar is desirable, as is work experience with women's organizations, LGBTQI+ organizations, or other civil society organizations in or relating to Myanmar. Familiarity with analytical software and experience in investigative, prosecutorial, or judicial institutions at the national or international level are also desirable.

Languages:
For this position, English and Burmese are required, with a proficiency level of UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, knowledge of either Haka-Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya, or Shan is desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level I.
