Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Department of Communication and Information (DCOMM) at the ILO, specifically in the Strategic Communication (STRATCOM) unit. The intern will support the management and maintenance of the ILO's social media presence, contributing to the creation of engaging content for the organization's global social media accounts. This role provides an excellent opportunity for interns to deepen their understanding of international labor issues while gaining practical experience in communication strategies and marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing. Interns will be involved in various tasks, including content creation for platforms like TikTok and Instagram, drafting messages, designing social media materials, and producing videos. They will also monitor social media trends and assist in analyzing data to inform communication strategies. Overall, this internship aims to enhance the intern's knowledge of digital communication and marketing within the context of the ILO's mission and work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for supporting the Audience Engagement Officer in managing the ILO's social media presence. Key duties include:
  • Monitoring and maintaining the ILO's social media accounts, ensuring timely and relevant content is posted.
  • Assisting in the creation of engaging content for social media platforms, particularly TikTok and Instagram.
  • Drafting messages and designing materials for social media campaigns.
  • Producing videos and selecting/editing photos for social media posts.
  • Keeping track of trending topics on social media to contribute ideas during daily editorial meetings.
  • Supporting social listening efforts and collecting data for analysis to improve social media strategies.
  • Gaining exposure to various labor-related topics and enhancing understanding of the ILO's work and the broader labor landscape.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • Must not have any close relatives working at the ILO (mother, father, brother, sister).
  • Must not have previously interned at the ILO.
  • Must be enrolled in a master's or doctoral program, or have completed such a program within the past year.
  • Must possess practical knowledge of English (both oral and written), which is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in social media management is valued but not required.
  • Strong writing skills, preferably with experience in social media content creation.
  • Creative mindset with a keen interest in social media trends and engagement.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a background in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or related fields. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's program or have completed their master's degree within the last year. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the ILO's communication efforts.

Experience:
While prior experience in social media management is preferred, it is not a strict requirement for this internship. The ILO values candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in digital communication and marketing, as well as those who can showcase their ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Interns should be able to meet tight deadlines and adapt their messaging to diverse cultural audiences.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills. Additionally, a good working knowledge of French or Spanish is considered an asset, as it will enhance the intern's ability to engage with a broader audience and contribute to the ILO's multilingual communication efforts.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution, in which case the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the stipend remains at 2450 CHF. Additionally, interns will receive a monthly contribution of 45 CHF towards medical insurance expenses during the internship period. Candidates from underrepresented or insufficiently represented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any personal expenses incurred during the internship, and candidates are required to have their own health and accident insurance valid throughout the internship duration.
