Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The position is located within the English Translation Section of the Languages Service, which is part of the Division of Conference Management in the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management of the United Nations. Job Overview:
The Reviser will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of translations produced by the United Nations. This position requires the incumbent to revise translations across a wide array of subjects pertinent to the UN's work, ensuring that they meet or exceed established workload standards. The Reviser will also be responsible for translating texts on a self-revising basis, particularly those that require a high level of expertise and proficiency. The role involves utilizing computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools effectively and contributing to the development and implementation of related IT tools. Additionally, the Reviser will draft and revise summary records, develop new terminology, conduct linguistic research, and assist in setting terminology standards. The position demands a high level of professionalism, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Reviser will be responsible for the following duties: revising translations covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations; translating texts on a self-revising basis; making full use of standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools; drafting and revising summary records; developing new terminology; conducting linguistic research; counseling and assisting translators; participating in the setting of terminology standards; meeting established deadlines for document production; acting as Programming Officer if required; collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights; and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Additionally, they must have passed the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for English Translators or a similar examination held before 201
  • A strong command of English, which must be the candidate's main language, is essential, along with excellent knowledge of two other official languages as tested by the relevant examination.

Educational Background:
A first-level degree from a recognized university or institution is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the Reviser effectively.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim-reporting, copy preparing, proofreading, or production editing. Out of this experience, three years in a multilingual setting is desirable. Experience within the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is also preferred, particularly in translation and précis-writing. Familiarity with standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and experience in data analytics or related areas are considered advantageous.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, a perfect command of English is required, as it must be the candidate's main language. Additionally, candidates must have excellent knowledge of two other official languages, as assessed by the relevant United Nations language competitive examination.
