The organization has been operational in Comoros since 2013, with its mission based in Madagascar, which coordinates the implementation of programs in Moroni, Comoros. IOM is currently implementing a European Union funded project aimed at creating a cohesive sub-continental data system for mixed migration in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the technical implementation of the project objectives related to mixed migration in Sub-Saharan Africa. This position involves assisting in the preparation of monthly work plans and progress reports, as well as collecting and compiling necessary information to monitor and evaluate project implementation. The Project Assistant will also be responsible for verifying project expenditures in collaboration with the Administration and Finance Unit, ensuring compliance with IOM's internal norms and regulations. Additionally, the role includes providing technical and administrative support for training workshops, capacity building, and other conferences related to the project. The Project Assistant will maintain dynamic working relations with national counterparts, partners, and UN agencies, and proactively identify and refer any issues in project implementation to the Head of Office.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant include:
Supporting the technical implementation of project activities to achieve the objectives set forth.
Assisting in the preparation of monthly work plans and progress reports.
Collecting and compiling information necessary for monitoring and evaluating project implementation.
Collaborating with the Administration and Finance Unit to verify project expenditures and review financial performance against the budget.
Providing technical and administrative support for training workshops, capacity building, and conferences.
Offering logistical support for missions and trips by experts and external participants.
Establishing and maintaining ongoing working relationships with national counterparts and relevant partners.
Identifying problems in project implementation and referring them to the Head of Office.
Contributing to technical discussions in working meetings.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Project Assistant position include:
A completed high school degree with three years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree in Political or Social Science, Law, International Relations, or a related field with at least one year of relevant professional experience.
Experience in protection mechanisms and referral pathways for vulnerable groups.
Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and victims of trafficking.
Familiarity with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs.
Knowledge of migration issues in the country is advantageous.
Experience working within the United Nations system is also an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must have either a completed high school degree from an accredited institution with three years of relevant experience or a university degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution with at least one year of relevant experience. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant professional experience, which can vary based on educational background. Those with a high school diploma should have three years of experience, while those with a university degree should have at least one year of experience. Experience in working with vulnerable groups, migration issues, and within the UN system is highly valued.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is mandatory for all applicants, both oral and written. Knowledge of Shikomori and any other UN official languages is considered an advantage. Proficiency in required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Comoros will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations.
