Job Overview: The Driver position is located in the Resident Coordinator's Office in Moroni, Comoros, and reports directly to the Resident Coordinator Team Leader. The primary function of this role is to ensure safe and efficient transportation for authorized personnel and general cargo. The Driver is expected to handle various logistical tasks, including making deliveries, collecting goods, and maintaining the assigned vehicle. This position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to navigate complex environments while adhering to safety regulations. The Driver will also assist in data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and information sharing, which are essential for effective decision-making and planning within the office.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo; making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and other institutions such as Ministries and Embassies; handling minor purchases and urgent requests from local suppliers; collecting goods from customs while adhering to regulations; meeting official personnel at the airport; maintaining effective and tactful communication with officials and visitors; performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and tools; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; ensuring cleanliness of the vehicle; logging fuel consumption and maintenance records; reporting any damage or loss of vehicle tools; ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents; applying good judgment in assignments; assisting with data collection and analysis; preparing data presentations and reports; updating information materials such as web pages or brochures; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a valid National Driver License and a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid Defensive Driving certificate is desirable, along with training in Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and professionalism in their driving practices, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in their interactions with clients and officials.
Educational Background: Completion of a high school diploma or secondary school education is required for this position. This educational background ensures that the candidate possesses the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties effectively.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of two years of continuous driving experience with a safe driving record. Experience in driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is essential. Additionally, experience providing driving and protocol support to senior officials or delegations within the United Nations, diplomatic, or other multilateral settings is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related areas for at least one year is also considered an asset.
Languages: The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in French is required, while English is desirable. Candidates should refer to the UN Language Framework for the minimum required level of proficiency in these languages.
