The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) play a crucial role in this reform, led by an empowered UN Resident Coordinator who represents the UN Secretary-General at the country level. Job Overview:
The Driver position is essential for the smooth operation of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Moroni, Comoros. The role involves safely transporting authorized personnel and general cargo, ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles, and providing logistical support for official functions. The Driver will also assist in data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations. This position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to navigate complex environments while maintaining a focus on client service and organizational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo.
  • Making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and various institutions, including ministries and embassies.
  • Conducting minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers as needed.
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and providing necessary support.
  • Maintaining the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and tools, and performing minor repairs.
  • Logging fuel consumption and maintenance activities.
  • Reporting any damage or loss of vehicle tools.
  • Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents.
  • Assisting with data collection and analysis for reports and presentations. 1
  • Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid National Driver License and have a clean driving record. A Defensive Driving certificate is desirable, along with training in Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent. The role requires knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with the local area and road conditions. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and the ability to handle challenging situations effectively.

Educational Background:
Completion of a high school diploma or secondary school education is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties effectively.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of continuous driving experience with a safe driving record is required. Candidates should have experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience providing driving and protocol support to senior officials or delegations in a UN, diplomatic, or multilateral context is desirable. Additionally, one year or more of experience in data analytics or a related area is considered an asset.

Languages:
French is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. English is desirable, also at a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication within the UN Secretariat.

This is a Fixed Term position, initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and budgetary approval. The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning candidates must be residents of the country or within commuting distance.
