The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) play a crucial role in this reform, supporting countries in their development priorities and the attainment of the SDGs. The UN RCO operates under the guidance of an empowered and independent UN Resident Coordinator, who is the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System at the country level. Job Overview:
The Driver position is located in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Moroni, Comoros, and reports directly to the Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office/Team Leader. The primary function of this role is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and general cargo goods. The Driver is expected to perform various tasks, including making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and other institutions, such as Ministries and Embassies. Additionally, the Driver may be required to make minor purchases, collect urgent items from local suppliers, and handle customs regulations when collecting goods. The role also involves meeting official personnel at the airport and maintaining a professional demeanor while dealing with officials and visitors. The Driver is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition, clean, and safe for use. This includes checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and performing minor repairs as needed. The Driver must log fuel consumption and maintenance activities and report any damage or loss of vehicle tools. In the event of an accident, the Driver is expected to follow the necessary procedures as outlined by the organization's rules and regulations. The position may also require the Driver to perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's duties and responsibilities include:
  • Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo goods.
  • Making deliveries of parcels, documents, and other items between the office and various institutions, including Ministries, Embassies, and Permanent Missions.
  • Making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers as requested.
  • Collecting goods from customs while adhering to customs regulations and formalities.
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and providing assistance as needed.
  • Dealing effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
  • Performing day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and tools.
  • Performing minor repairs and arranging for other repairs as necessary.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are kept clean and in good condition. 1

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a valid National Driver's License and a clean driving record. A valid defensive driving certificate is desirable. Candidates must possess knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with the area and current road conditions. The ability to demonstrate professionalism, commitment to gender equality, and effective planning and organizing skills is essential. Candidates should also exhibit strong client orientation, ensuring that the needs of those served are met with respect and efficiency. The role demands a conscientious and efficient approach to work, with a focus on achieving results and meeting deadlines.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. In lieu of two years of required experience, a relevant first-level university degree may be accepted. Additionally, a valid basic life support (BLS) certificate or equivalent is desirable, indicating a commitment to safety and preparedness in emergency situations.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience as a driver, demonstrating a safe driving record. Experience in driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is required. Experience working with the United Nations or other international organizations is desirable, as is familiarity with protocol matters in a multilateral setting. This experience is crucial for understanding the unique demands and expectations of the role within the context of international diplomacy and cooperation.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written French is required for this position, as French is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of English is also necessary, as it is another working language. Additionally, knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), while knowledge is defined as a rating of 'confident' in two of the four areas.

Additional Notes:
This is a Fixed Term position, open for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of extension subject to the availability of funds, budgetary approval, or extension of the mandate. The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work for the United Nations in the duty station where the position is located.
