Job Overview:
The Finance and Budget Assistant plays a crucial role within the Budget Unit, supporting the Chief Budget Unit in various financial and budgetary tasks. This position involves assisting in the preparation and analysis of budget proposals, ensuring that the mission's resource requirements are met effectively. The assistant will be responsible for monitoring budget implementation, verifying data accuracy, and preparing performance reports. The role requires a strong understanding of financial principles and practices, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with different sections and offices to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the review, analysis, and preparation of cost estimates and budget proposals, focusing on both staff and non-staff requirements.
  • Collaborate with relevant sections and offices to review justifications for resource requirements during budget preparation.
  • Monitor extra-budgetary resources, ensuring compliance with regulations and established policies.
  • Track budget implementation and expenditures, assisting with fund reallocations as necessary.
  • Verify the accuracy of input data, ensuring consistency across allotments.
  • Prepare budget performance submissions and assist in finalizing budget performance reports, analyzing variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Draft correspondence to respond to inquiries regarding budgetary and financial matters.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a sound knowledge of financial principles and practices, with the ability to conduct independent research and analysis.
