Job Overview: The Communications and Advocacy Analyst plays a pivotal role in advancing UNFPA's strategic communication efforts in Brazil. This position is integral to supporting media outreach, advocacy campaigns, digital communications, and storytelling, all aimed at enhancing UNFPA's engagement with key stakeholders, including government entities, the private sector, civil society, and the media. The analyst will work closely with internal teams and external partners, particularly focusing on issues related to sexual and reproductive health, gender equity, and human rights. The role requires the development and execution of communication strategies that amplify UNFPA's work and support resource mobilization. The analyst's expertise in media relations, multimedia production, content creation, and partnership building will directly impact the effectiveness of advocacy campaigns and strengthen relationships with high-level supporters, ensuring that UNFPA's messaging aligns with its vision for equity and development, especially for marginalized populations in Brazil.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications and Advocacy Analyst will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the overall guidance of the Country Office (CO) Representation. Key duties include:
Supporting the design and implementation of media strategies for events, campaigns, report launches, and field visits.
Coordinating responses to incoming media inquiries, reviewing press releases, and monitoring relevant news coverage.
Identifying and reaching out to high-level supporters to amplify UNFPA's brand story and engage with key audiences.
Managing UNFPA Brazil's social media accounts, website, and other digital communication channels.
Developing communication materials, presentations, and speeches for formal and informal meetings, as well as media plans for interviews.
Collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information on sexual and reproductive health and rights, population and development, gender, race and ethnicity equity, HIV/AIDS, humanitarian assistance, and South-South Cooperation.
Building consensus with colleagues on the image to be projected and setting priorities on key audiences to be targeted.
Collaborating with communication organizations, the UN System, government, and the private sector to enhance UNFPA's visibility and effectiveness.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in communication/media studies, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations, Public Health, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree may be considered in lieu of a master's degree if combined with an additional three years of relevant qualifying experience beyond the minimum requirement. Candidates should have progressively responsible professional working experience in leading, developing, and implementing media/communications strategies and plans. Experience in multimedia production, managing digital communications, and working with government institutions, NGOs, donor institutions, or the UN System is essential. A strong network with relevant stakeholders, including government, the private sector, civil society, and the media, is also required. Previous work experience in the UN system at either the national or international level is desired.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in communication/media studies, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations, Public Health, or related fields. In cases where a candidate holds a first-level university degree, they must also have an additional three years of relevant experience to be considered for the role.
Experience: The position requires relevant progressively responsible professional working experience in leading, developing, and implementing media and communications strategies and plans. Candidates should have experience in multimedia production, including written, design, audiovisual, and other online and offline communication products and channels. Experience managing digital communications, such as social media and websites, is also necessary. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with government institutions, NGOs, donor institutions, and/or the UN System, as well as an extensive network with relevant stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory, while an intermediate level of Spanish is also required. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the role.
