Job Overview: The Communications and Advocacy Analyst plays a crucial role in advancing UNFPA's strategic communication efforts in Brazil. This position is responsible for supporting media outreach, advocacy campaigns, digital communications, and storytelling to enhance UNFPA's engagement with key stakeholders, including government entities, the private sector, civil society, and the media. The analyst will work closely with internal teams and external partners, particularly focusing on issues related to sexual and reproductive health, gender equity, and human rights. The role requires the development and execution of communication strategies that amplify UNFPA's work and support resource mobilization, ensuring that messaging aligns with the organization's vision for equity and development, especially for marginalized populations in Brazil.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the overall guidance of the CO Representation. Key duties include:
Supporting the design and implementation of media strategies for events, campaigns, report launches, and field visits;
Coordinating responses to incoming media inquiries, reviewing press releases, and monitoring relevant news coverage;
Identifying and reaching out to high-level supporters to amplify UNFPA's brand story;
Managing UNFPA Brazil's social media accounts, website, and other digital communication channels;
Developing communication materials, presentations, and speeches for meetings;
Collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information on sexual and reproductive health and rights;
Developing messages for UNFPA staff when working with partners;
Building consensus with colleagues on the image to be projected and setting priorities on key audiences;
Mapping possible partners and opportunities to leverage UNFPA's institutional image; 1
Collaborating with communication organizations, the UN System, government, and the private sector; 1
Carrying out any other duties as required by UNFPA leadership.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in communication/media studies, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations, Public Health, or related fields. In lieu of a master's degree, a first-level university degree can be considered when combined with an additional three years of relevant qualifying experience beyond the minimum requirement. Candidates should have relevant progressively responsible professional working experience leading, developing, and implementing media/communications strategies and plans. Experience in multimedia production, managing digital communications, and working with government institutions, NGOs, donor institutions, and/or the UN System is essential. An extensive network with relevant stakeholders, including government, the private sector, civil society, and the media, is also required. Previous work experience in the UN system at national or international level is desired.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in communication/media studies, Journalism, Marketing, International Relations, Public Health, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree may be accepted if combined with an additional three years of relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement.
