Job Overview: The position is part of the Global Project on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This project builds on the results of its predecessor and aims to assist the governments of Fiji and the Philippines, as well as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU), in developing and applying approaches to manage human mobility in the context of climate change in a development-oriented manner. The project supports partners in feminist development policy, enhancing migration as a strategy for climate change adaptation, and aims to develop supportive financing instruments while ensuring that voluntary relocations are implemented transparently, participatively, and based on needs. Additionally, the project seeks to mitigate the negative effects of disaster-induced displacement, focusing on climate-resilient and conflict-sensitive approaches. Experiences from the country components will be compiled to contribute to international discussions and negotiations, supporting the BMZ in positioning and advising on these issues.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will support the project management and team of the Global Project on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change with the following tasks: conducting literature research, studies, and publications on the intersection of climate change and human mobility from various perspectives, focusing on gender and interdisciplinarity, urban areas, and financing mechanisms; planning, conceptualizing, and executing (virtual) events, workshops, stakeholder, and partner meetings; managing knowledge and project organization; handling communication and public relations; monitoring and reporting on project measures in collaboration with country and regional component staff.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be pursuing a degree in environmental sciences, social sciences, political sciences, gender studies, migration studies, geography, or a related field. Knowledge of relevant political processes in climate policy and/or migration governance is essential. Familiarity with Germany's engagement in countries of the so-called Global South is desirable. Expertise in migration policy, international climate policy, gender equality, and urbanization is advantageous. Initial experience in project management is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to engage with new topics, possess teamwork skills, motivation, and initiative, as well as strong communication and networking abilities. Proficiency in MS Office applications is required, and fluency in German and English is mandatory, with knowledge of French being a plus.
Educational Background: The internship is only possible if you are currently enrolled in a degree program, are in a training program that requires an internship as an integral part, or if your degree was completed no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: The position is suitable for candidates who are currently studying or have recently graduated, with a focus on those who have some initial experience in project management or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in German and English is mandatory for this position, while knowledge of French is considered an advantage.
