Job Overview: The position of Praktikant*in im Sektorvorhaben EU-Entwicklungspolitik involves supporting the team in providing expert and strategic advice on ongoing negotiation processes and key cross-cutting themes in German and European development policy. The intern will assist in the development of environmental observations, commentaries, and analyses of stakeholders from politics, civil society, business, and academia. The role also includes supporting the BMZ in networking with member states, EU institutions, civil society, and other stakeholders at the EU level. The internship is designed for students who wish to gain practical experience in the field of EU development policy and contribute to shaping the development agenda of the EU.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for assisting the team with the following tasks:
Providing support in the expert and strategic advisory processes related to ongoing negotiations and key themes in German and European development cooperation.
Assisting in the preparation of environmental observations, commentaries, and analyses regarding stakeholders from various sectors including politics, civil society, business, and academia.
Supporting the team with day-to-day tasks and responsibilities, including public relations and communication efforts.
Engaging in research and analysis to contribute to the development of strategic recommendations for the BMZ.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a university program, ideally from the third semester onwards, in fields such as European Studies, Political Science, or Social Sciences, with a focus on EU development policy. Practical experience with the workings of the EU through internships, as well as experience in development policy or international cooperation, is highly desirable. Familiarity with European international politics in areas such as climate, just transition, development financing, migration, gender, or the humanitarian-development-peace nexus is advantageous. Strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, initiative, and organizational strengths are essential.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in European Studies, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field, with a specific emphasis on EU development policy. The internship is only available to those who are currently enrolled in their studies, are in a training program that requires an internship, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: Candidates should have practical experience related to the workings of the EU, ideally through previous internships. Experience in development cooperation or related fields is preferred, particularly in areas relevant to the EU's international policies.
Languages: Proficiency in both German and English is required, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French, is considered an asset.
