Job Overview:
The intern will be part of the Strategic Partnership and Policy team at UNDP China, providing essential support for a project aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of China's international development cooperation. The role involves facilitating project management through collaboration with various stakeholders, including UN agencies and national partners. The intern will assist in generating knowledge products, organizing dialogues, and conducting analytical work related to South-South Cooperation and SDG attainment. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks under the guidance of the Project Manager, including:
  • Supporting project management and coordination by organizing events and engagements with Chinese and international development partners, providing logistical and administrative support, and preparing communication materials for press releases and social media.
  • Assisting in the preparation of various documents, such as Terms of References, activity agendas, and memos, ensuring alignment with UNDP's corporate policies.
  • Coordinating meeting schedules and drafting briefing notes and meeting minutes in a clear and organized manner.
  • Supporting progress reporting, financing, monitoring, and communications related to the project.
  • Conducting research and analytical work, including data analysis and literature reviews on relevant topics.
  • Compiling and developing knowledge products, such as mappings and case studies, to support the project's objectives.
  • Performing other ad hoc duties as needed to support the team's efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's programme;
  • In the final year of a Bachelor’s programme; or
  • Within one year after graduation from a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme. Preferred majors include International Relations, International Development, International Communication, Public Policy, Economics, SDG Finance, or related fields. Familiarity with UN work, South-South Cooperation, and international development is essential. An advanced university degree is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a strong academic background in fields related to international development, public policy, or economics. Candidates must be either enrolled in a Master's programme or in their final year of a Bachelor's programme, or have recently graduated. Relevant coursework or experience in international relations, development studies, or similar areas will be beneficial. An advanced degree is advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some familiarity with UN operations and international development practices. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, any internships or volunteer work related to development cooperation, research, or policy analysis will be viewed favorably. The intern should demonstrate a strong interest in the field and a willingness to learn and contribute to the team's objectives.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory. Proficiency in Chinese, particularly in bi-directional translation and interpretation, is also required. Candidates should be able to effectively communicate in both languages, as this will be essential for the role.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns will receive a monthly stipend. Interns are expected to provide proof of health insurance and a medical certificate of good health before starting. They will have 1.5 days of leave per month and are responsible for their own travel arrangements and visa applications. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in a UN environment, and interns must adhere to the terms of their internship, ensuring that they do not apply for staff positions during this period.
