Job Overview:
The Environment Consultant position is situated within the Climate Change Section (CC) of the Air Transport Bureau (ATB) at ICAO. The primary focus of this role is to support the development and implementation of policies and measures aimed at mitigating the impact of aviation on climate change. This includes working on initiatives such as Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the CORSIA Central Registry (CCR) and related databases, conducting quantitative analyses, and developing data visualization tools to support decision-making processes. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including other ICAO sections and external vendors, to ensure the effective operation of the CCR and the successful implementation of CORSIA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Environment Consultant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the operation and development of the CORSIA Central Registry (CCR), ensuring compliance with CORSIA SARPs and timelines.
  • Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses related to CCR data and developing structured databases and low-code applications for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) functions.
  • Implementing cloud-based workflows and ensuring compatibility of the CCR with other CORSIA-related databases.
  • Designing and implementing data visualization aids and documentation for CORSIA, including creating presentations and gathering information for high-level meetings.
  • Assisting in the development of training materials and outreach materials related to CORSIA implementation.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall goals of the Climate Change Section.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in engineering, mathematics, science, statistics, or a related discipline. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of professional experience in an international civil aviation or environmental organization, with a strong background in analytical work, tool development, and statistics. Experience in data management services within the aviation or environmental sectors is essential. Familiarity with international environmental policies related to ICAO is desirable, as is knowledge of low-code applications and SQL environments.

Educational Background:
The position requires a first-level university degree, preferably in a relevant field such as engineering, mathematics, science, or statistics. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of the role and for conducting the necessary analyses and tool development.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in an international civil aviation or environmental organization, with at least two years of that experience at the international level. This experience should include a strong focus on analytical work, tool development, and data management services, particularly in the context of aviation and environmental sectors.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong reading, writing, and speaking abilities required. Additionally, a working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The selected consultant will be employed for an initial period of 11 months, with the possibility of contract renewal on a year-to-year basis, contingent upon funding availability, operational needs, and satisfactory performance. This is a full-time position that requires in-person presence at the Montreal office for at least three days a week. Candidates must have legal authorization to work and live in Canada during the contract term. The monthly salary for this position ranges from CAD 5,097 to CAD 8,122, and employment income from UN agencies is tax-exempt in Canada.
