Job Overview: The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the ICAO Gender Equality Programme, which has gained significant visibility and importance within the organization. The intern's responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation for the upcoming Global Aviation Gender Summit in 2026, which involves coordinating logistics, liaising with speakers and stakeholders, and ensuring effective communication. The intern will also draft articles and develop communication materials for the ICAO Gender Equality Programme's website, ensuring that the content is accessible and aligned with ICAO's initiatives. This position requires a proactive approach to support the planning and administration of various activities related to gender equality in aviation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the logistical preparations for the Global Aviation Gender Summit, coordinating with invited speakers, and liaising with the host State for necessary information. The intern will respond to inquiries related to the event and support the overall organization of the summit. Additionally, the intern will draft articles and highlight stories for the ICAO Gender Equality Programme's website, ensuring that the content is clear and engaging. Scheduling meetings with both internal and external stakeholders, preparing agendas, assisting with note-taking, and tracking follow-up actions will also be part of the intern's responsibilities. The intern may be required to perform other general support activities as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the programme.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have enrolled in or recently graduated from a university programme in communications, international relations, gender studies, political science, or a related field. A working knowledge of the United Nations system and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is desirable, as is prior experience in a non-profit, NGO, or intergovernmental organization setting. The intern should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, teamwork, client orientation, and creativity in their approach to tasks.
Educational Background: The essential educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or recent graduation from a university programme in relevant fields such as communications, international relations, gender studies, political science, or similar disciplines. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of gender equality issues within the aviation sector and the broader context of international relations.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in a non-profit, NGO, or intergovernmental organization setting would be considered an asset. Familiarity with the United Nations system and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development would also enhance the candidate's suitability for this role. The intern should be prepared to engage with various stakeholders and contribute to the programme's objectives effectively.
Languages: Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in English are essential for this position. Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The preferred duration of the internship is six months, with the intern expected to work full-time, five days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM. This is a hybrid position, requiring at least three days a week in the Montreal office. Interns are not eligible for any other form of employment within ICAO during the internship and cannot apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for six months following the end of their internship. Candidates may need a work permit to work in Canada as an intern.
