Job Overview:

Interns will work under the general guidance of the Chief of the Office of Internal Oversight and will be expected to assist OIO staff members in various tasks. The role involves supporting team members in specific audit and evaluation assignments, conducting research, studies, and reviews as assigned, and assisting with data collection and analysis for audit and evaluation projects. Interns will also help prepare audit and evaluation reports, consolidate oversight recommendations from various audits and evaluation reports, coordinate meetings with stakeholders, and maintain documentation according to professional standards. This internship provides an opportunity to learn about audits and evaluations in an international environment, gain a deeper understanding of ICAO's work and the UN system, and collaborate with colleagues in a multicultural setting. Interns will develop skills in data analysis, effective communication, and teamwork while producing timely and quality outputs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting team members in specific audit and evaluation assignments.
  • Undertaking specific research, studies, and reviews as assigned.
  • Assisting with data collection and analysis for audit and evaluation projects.
  • Supporting the preparation of audit and evaluation reports, findings, and recommendations.
  • Consolidating oversight recommendations from various internal and external audits and evaluation reports.
  • Coordinating meetings with stakeholders, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and minute-taking.
  • Helping maintain documentation and working papers according to professional standards.
  • Supporting the desk review of documentation and the design, launching, and follow-up of surveys.
  • Performing other duties as required to support the OIO team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree program (second-level university degree or higher) in a relevant field such as audit, evaluation, economics, data science, management, social science, computer science, or political science. For applicants from countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, completion of at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a degree is required. Experience in auditing, evaluations, monitoring, programs, or operations is considered an asset, providing candidates with a competitive edge in the selection process.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree program related to audit, evaluation, economics, data science, management, social science, computer science, or political science. Those pursuing studies in countries without a clear division between undergraduate and graduate education must have completed at least four years of full-time university studies towards a degree. This educational background ensures that interns possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to contribute effectively to the OIO's work.

Experience:
While specific experience is not mandatory, having prior experience in auditing, evaluations, monitoring, programs, or operations is considered an asset. This experience can enhance an intern's ability to understand the complexities of the tasks assigned and contribute meaningfully to the OIO's objectives. Interns are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the requirements of the role, leveraging any relevant experience they may have.

Languages:
Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in English are essential for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of a second language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable. Proficiency in multiple languages can enhance communication within the diverse international environment of ICAO and facilitate collaboration with colleagues from various linguistic backgrounds.

Additional Notes:
Interns will receive a stipend during their internship, but all costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern. The internship duration ranges from three to twelve months, with a firm maximum of twelve months. Interns are expected to work five days a week on a full-time basis. During the internship period, interns are not eligible to engage in any other form of employment within ICAO. They are required to carry out their assigned duties with loyalty, discretion, and conscience, adhering to the relevant official instructions issued by the Organization.
